Clifton DeBerry (1923-2006) joined the Communist Party as a young factory worker, and then moved to the Socialist Workers Party in 1953. For this 1964 race, he was the first Black presidential candidate for any established political party. He finished fourth in the popular vote with 32,706, nowhere near Lyndon Johnson and Barry Goldwater, but not far behind the third-place Socialist Labor candidate. He was also the party's nominee in 1980. None traced in OCLC or at auction.
