Additional Details

Although signed in September 1858, this agreement went into effect the prior January. Apparently, the contract was ante-dated because the partners had been granted the contract to carry military supplies along the Fort Laramie route on 16 January 1858. The amount of military supplies sent along the route under that contract would be approximately six million pounds -- more than ever before. Although not mentioned in this agreement, it was under this partnership, in November 1859, that the Central Overland California and Pike's Peak Express Company was formed -- the parent company of the Pony Express.
