(PORTRAITS) Group of 9 beautifully-bound albums labeled "Photographs," with a total of 98 pictures; 30 depicting a mustachioed man appparently "trying on" different identities in photographers' studios. The unidentified subject is dressed in various outfits, including a successful gentleman in businessman's attire, tuxedos, colorful ethnic costumes, swimming costumes (an early Speedo), and a man of lesiure (who's enjoying a cigar); also includes poetic studies of children, confirmation portraits, other family members, and smiling parents with infants. Silver prints, 5 1/2x4 inches (14x10.2 cm.), with the original interleafing tissues; one album with portraits by C.F. Conly of Boston, 2 albums by Borgfeldt of Brooklyn, and an album of combined portraits; with the photographers' imprints on mounts recto and verso. Small 8vos, green (8) and red (one) gilt-decorated morocco, raised bands on spines, sunned; all edges gilt. Circa 1900
