Group of 4 photographs of cotton picking and shipping, depicting African Americans working in Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina after the abolition of slavery in the United States, during the period of Reconstruction in the American South. Albumen (2) and printing-out paper prints (2), measuring 4 1/2x7 3/4 to 7 1/2x9 3/4 inches (11.4x19.7 to 19.5x24.8 cm.), 2 on their original mounts and one on a later mount; 2 with titles in the negative, one with a title on mount recto, one with a Valentine Museum Cook Collection hand stamp on verso, and each with various stamps, labels, and captions, on verso and mount verso. 1880-1900
