a rare survival, containing: Our Grandfather's Days, The Captain, Want a Substitute, Kingdom Coming, Dixie's Land, and Young America and Old Ireland. Almost all of these are significant in that they help tell us at what point in the war they were printed. Kingdom Coming generally is associated with the entrance of colored troops into combat, and Want a Substitute would almost certainly refer to the Draft of 1863. Magnus, the stationer responsible for this song book, is noted for their hand-colored patriotic covers and song sheets.
