Freeport Journal. 8 pages, 20¾ x 14¼ inches; disbound. Includes full-page spread on page 4: "The Nation's Choice" celebrating the victory of Rutherford B. Hayes over Samuel Tilden: "Perjury, fraud, bulldozing, intimidation, &c., of no avail. The country is safe, and the Union is preserved." The defeated Tilden is depicted saying farewell "to an unappreciative public," departing for a foreign land by balloon, and as an "old rat looking for a hole to crawl into." Freeport, IL, 7 March 1877.
