Additional Details

An impressive early patriotic piece, boasting in the header that it was "executed with American materials," and depicting the young nation as the "temple of freedom." The copyright was issued on 15 January, and the header reads "eighth edition, June 1812," but no earlier editions are known. Reilly 1812-1; Shaw-Shoemaker 25079. Only 3 library copies traced, and only one copy found at auction since 1949 (Swann, 30 September 2010, lot 175). Provenance: sold by M & S Rare Books to the consignor, November 1979.
