Additional Details

One of the famed "coffin handbills." It opposed Andrew Jackson's 1828 candidacy by recounting the cruel executions of his own soldiers during the Creek War. An inset to the right depicts Jackson stabbing a man on the streets of Nashville. The author of the text, Senator Thomas Hart Benton (1782-1858), had brawled with Jackson back in 1813, so he had some personal experience with his subject. Reilly 1828-2.
