Additional Details

A publication of the Democratic Party in the state of Connecticut. Consists mainly of a long unsigned address in support of the Van Buren candidacy and in opposition to the new Whig Party, followed by a "Short Review of the Acts and Proceedings of the last General Assembly, and concluding with "The Shorter Catechism for the Use of 'Whig' Boys of All Ages." This last satirical section is similar in style and tone to pro and anti-Lincoln pieces written in for the 1864 campaign, such as "The Shorter Catechism of Negro Equality" and "The Lincoln Catechism, Wherein the Eccentricities & Beauties of Despotism Are Fully Set Forth." No imprint line, but concludes "Committees will be furnished with this Pamphlet at Two Dollars per hundred copies--at short notice." Provenance: Found among the papers of the Rev. Orville Dewey (1794-1882), though his connection is unknown. None traced in OCLC or elsewhere.
