(PRESIDENTS--1844 CAMPAIGN.) The Clay and Markle Banner. Letterpress broadside, 11 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches; folds, minor foxing. Blue Bell, PA, 1 August 1844

Additional Details

A one-off broadside newspaper printed for "the Great Whig Meeting" held at Blue Bell in support of presidential candidate Henry Clay and Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Joseph Markle (both of whom eventually lost). It includes lyrics for 3 pro-Clay songs, one of them intended to be sung to the tune of "Yankee Doodle." Also included are notes on the Whig stance on tariffs, and a rate list for the weekly "Clay Flag-Staff." We find no other mention of this ephemeral production on OCLC, at auction, or in the entire realm of Googledom.
