The two soldiers each wrote out the bet: "I, John Anderson, do bet with John Clancy that Abm. Lincoln will be the next president of the United States for $25 dollars." and "I, John Clancy, do bet with John Anderson that Genl. Geo. B. McClellan will be our next president of the U.S. for $25 dollars, and if neither parties is elected, the bets is null & void." The wager is signed by both parties and two witnesses.
