Additional Details

A commemorative textile apparently issued for Benjamin Harrison's inauguration. His portrait appears next to one of George Washington, with the only text reading "1789 / 1889"--a reminder that Harrison took office during the hundredth year of the presidency. The textile was printed in a continuous loop, and other known existing examples are each cropped differently. Collins reports one that was made into an apron. The present example is cropped with a wavy pattern to show the entire design without repetition. Collins, Threads of History 676 and 677.
