An allegorical depiction of the discovery of Vinland in 1000, the arrival of Columbus in 1492, Pilgrims, scenes from the Revolution, and an eagle picking apart the carcass of a lion, all surmounted by George Washington and the other early presidents atop a grand monument emblazoned with the state seals. A later impression of a print first published in 1858 as "Family Monument from the History of our Country"--the engraving date explains the notable absence of Lincoln.
