"THREE SHOTS WERE FIRED AT PRESIDENT KENNEDY'S MOTORCADE" (PRESIDENTS--1963.) UPI news ticker from the Kennedy assassination. One teletype sheet, 41 x 8 1/2 inches; five horizontal folds, minimal wear, contemporary inscription in upper margin. [Florida], 22 November 1963

Additional Details

This teletype printout begins with a shocking report: "Three shots were fired at President Kennedy's motorcade today in Dallas. . . . Kennedy seriously wounded. . . . Perhaps fatally by assassins bullet." The reports grow progressively more detailed, and end at 12:55 Central Time with the president still clinging to life.
This printout differs from the more commonly seen Dow Jones News Service ticker from the assassination; all of the reports are from UPI, rather than the Associated Press. It is inscribed in the upper margin: "This message was flashed over TTY--1st notice at Site D4 of assassination of Pres. Kennedy. A.T. Dannessa, 22 Nov. 1963." Angelo T. Dannessa (1930-2016) was at the time employed at Vitro Services, a military contractor at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
with--the 22 November page from Dannessa's desk calendar, reading "Pres. Kennedy shot & killed," inscribed on verso with his location and the front page from the Clearwater (FL) Sun: "Kennedy Slain."
