Additional Details

This print was created as a premium for a new family magazine, Frank Leslie's Chimney Corner, and copyrighted on 8 April 1865. It imagines Lincoln greeting notable Americans at a grand White House reception. Flanked by Mrs. Lincoln and Vice President Johnson, Lincoln presides over a crowd of hundreds including cabinet members, General Grant and Sherman (who were still quite occupied with the war at this point), and many more. The print was given to any purchaser of the magazine's first two issues, but the key was not included until the 4th issue to encourage subscribers. By that point, Lincoln was gone, and a pirated version of this print had appeared as "Lincoln's Last Reception." Lincoln Image, pages 144-146.
