Additional Details

The volume, being more or less an abstract of the magnificent occasion, is made much more attractive by the addition of several scarce lithographs depicting the procession and banquet for Queen Victoria on November 9th, 1837 at the Guildhall, her first official visit as Queen to the city of London. Clipped signatures of municipal figures are mounted on leaves facing their names in print. Gentlemen who served as either previous, present, or future Lord Mayors of London, aldermen and baronets include: John Cowan, Thomas Kelly, Thomas Wood, W.T. Copeland, Sir John Key, Sir William Heygate, James Harmer, Sir Peter Laurie, Sir Claudius Hunter and William Venables, amongst others. Signatures of Lord John Russell and the Earl of Albemarle also appear. The name of William Venables bears significance as the volume contains the bookplate of T.C. (Thomas Charles) Venables, relation and business partner of William, suggesting this unique volume was likely compiled by him in retrospect of what must have been the highlight of his public career.
