Additional Details

A rare group of racist engravings, aimed at the free-black communities of Philadelphia and Boston, where blacks had made significant progress as far as acceptance in the larger community. The fear of "amalgamation" gave birth to racist engravings like these and others produced by Edward Clay of Philadelphia and Treagar in London. Today they are sought after by both collectors and institutions.
