Italian-American anarchists Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were charged with a 1920 murder and armed robbery in Massachusetts, were controversially sentenced to death in 1921, and were executed in 1927. 7 of these photos depict the defendants. Others show family members, witnesses, Judge Thayer, evidence presented in the trial, rallies in support of the defendants, and the crowd outside the prison when they were executed.
