(RADICALISM.) Strike broadside for the Cloak and Skirt Makers Union in English, Yiddish, and Italian. Letterpress broadside in 3 columns, 20 x 12 1/2 inches, on thin red paper; folds, minor wear. Philadelphia, circa 1913-21

Additional Details

This broadside exhorts union members: "The General Strike is Proclaimed! Today, 10 A.M. prompt, let every Cloak and Skirt Operator . . . lay down their tools, and all as a Unit leave their shops and walk out and remain on strike. . . . Their tolerance to slavery is at an end! The Giant has arisen! . . . Mould yourselves into a Solid Wall of Unity, so that the cannons of the enemy shall rebound and become uneffective." The parallel text in Yiddish and Italian appears to be essentially the same, although additional untranslated Yiddish text appears at bottom. This union was involved in at least two substantial strikes, in July 1913 and July 1921.
