(RAILROAD.) Group of 39 sketches of railroad locomotives, each used in reduced size in J. G. Pangborn's The World's Rail Way (1894), done in pen-and-ink and black wash, a few heightened with white or blue-gray gouache, various sizes but generally image sizes around 190x255 mm, all done on rigid paper boards; all quite darkened from sun exposure but still very presentable, some damage on several along edges (not affecting the image), one plate cracked through the center. Original illustrations for Pangborn's classic work. There were originally 157 illustrations of locomotives in the book. All are by the same artist, though the artist remains unknown. The book was republished in 1974.
