The composer Cordelia Amanda Hawkins Gatewood (1870-1950) spent most of her life in Americus, GA; Cordele, GA was named in her honor. The Americus, Preston & Lumpkin Railroad was chartered in Georgia in 1884, but the first known Harding's Music Office imprint was 1886, and Hawkins was married in 1890. This piece is dedicated to the composer's father, Colonel Samuel Hugh Hawkins, the railroad president. No other copies of this piece have been traced in OCLC or at auction.
