(RAILROADS.) Russell, Andrew J.; photographer. Construction Train near Bear River. Albumen photograph, 8 3/4 x 12 1/4 inches, on original plain mount with photographer's printed caption label mounted on verso; mount moderately stained, a bit warped, and slightly chipped, with faint spotting in the image. Np, circa 1868
One of the views from Russell's "Great West Illustrated in a Series of Photographic Views Across the Continent," which documented the construction of the first transcontinental railroad from 1864 to 1869. The railroad crossed the Bear River twice, near Evanston, WY and again in Utah just north of the Great Salt Lake. Other copies of this print are captioned more fully as "Construction train, end of track near Bear River, General Casement's outfit," and have been assigned an 1868 date.
