Additional Details

One of the views from Russell's "Great West Illustrated in a Series of Photographic Views Across the Continent," which documented the construction of the first transcontinental railroad from 1864 to 1869. The railroad crossed the Bear River twice, near Evanston, WY and again in Utah just north of the Great Salt Lake. Other copies of this print are captioned more fully as "Construction train, end of track near Bear River, General Casement's outfit," and have been assigned an 1868 date.
