A broadside account of the kidnapping, attempted lynching and subsequent release of John Campbell, a white man from Moore County, NC who had run afoul of the local Ku Klux Klan for his Republican views. The engraving shows a group of outlandishly cowled figures surrounding Campbell, who is on his knees and about to be lynched. Campbell was rescued at the last possible moment by a detachment of the United States Secret Service and his would-be killers were jailed. A re-enactment of the lynching was then staged with the confiscated Klan regalia, and this engraving was done from the resulting photograph. The inscription reads "Dear Father, You will see that the above is genuine. Show it to D.C. Hall and others who believe in no Ku-Klux.
