Additional Details

The sister ships were both triple-screw vessels and both began their lives in the service of the White Star Line. The "Pennland" began its career as the "Pittsburgh." She was renamed in 1923. The "Westernalnd" entered Red Star service after sailing as the "Regina." Both were sold to Arnold Bernstein in the 1930s and then to Holland-America. The "Pennland" was lost to belligerent fire in World War II. The "Westernland" made it through the war, but was scrapped in 1947.
