Additional Details

the first of two such "souvenirs" for the young people who attended this preparatory congress of representatives from different schools offering opportunities to young African American men and women. Another was issued in 1906. The Christian and Educational Congress was essentially a gathering of representatives from the Negro colleges of the country. There are articles on education but also on racial progress. Garland Penn, the compiler and editor, was the author of the mammoth and still relevant reference, The Afro-American Press and its Editors (1891).
