Boyd, and company were the publishers of this and countless other publications for the African American wing of the Baptist Church. Williams' book consists of a series of spiritual essays. The author takes his title from the twenty-seventh verse of the fifth chapter of Genesis: "And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died." Some of these essays are more secular, but in general this work encourages baptism and conversion.
