Additional Details

Reprinted by Edes and Gill from a much earlier London edition. The Preface to this edition, signed Concionator, argues the American revolutionary cause in opposition to the Townshend Acts: "Never was there a People whom it more immediately concerned to search into the Nature and Extent of their Rights and Privileges than it does the People of America at this Day. By an unfortunate Train of circumstances, the Affections of our Mother Country seem to be alienated from us, and an avaricious Desire of making the most of us, seems so far to have blinded her, that unless we are, by some Means able to counteract her ill-judged Measures, we shall not only be undone ourselves, but shall have the Unhappiness likewise of seeing Great-Britain sink in the vast Ocean of her own Misconduct . . ." This copy signed on the title by noted Revolutionary Joshua Henshaw (1703-77). Evans 10845; Sabin 7208. Not in Adams.
