Additional Details

The Newport Tower or "Old Stone Mill" is an ancient stone structure which has invited wild speculation on its origins for almost two hundred years. It was definitely built by either early Norse explorers, a lost colony of 15th-century Chinese sailors, wayward Portuguese navigators, space aliens, or (most likely) the early English settlers of Newport. This lot includes the 1851 pamphlet "The Controversy Touching the Old Stone Mill" The later pamphlet "Eighty Photographic Views of Newport" 45 postcards featuring the mill (including a few duplicates) 16 photographs of the mill, most of them stereoviews 3 small pieces of advertising ephemera featuring the mill and early clippings of articles on the mill.
