Among the 1867 graduates shown are entomologist Joseph Bridgham; early white NAACP supporter Edward Osgood Brown; composer Lucien G. Chaffin; engineer and library benefactor Elmer Corthell, an artillery captain in the Civil War; Indiana Jewish leader John Mantle Judah; Civil War veteran James McWhinnie, who lost a leg at Chancellorsville; the Rev. Calbraith Bourne Perry, author of "Twelve Years among the Colored People"; and Martin S. Smith, a veteran officer of the 14th Rhode Island Heavy Artillery Regiment (Colored).
