"one of the largest and most curious lithographic cartoons ever published in america"--Murrell, pages I:160-2. Second edition. A satire celebrating the defeat of Dorrite Democrats in the 1843 Rhode Island elections, closing a chapter on the Dorr Rebellion. A cloven-footed Thomas Wilson Dorr is shown in the upper right, being tossed upon the horns of new Law and Order governor James Fenner. The armory which had been stormed by the Dorrites is featured to the left, surrounded by a motley rabble. One popular Democratic cause, the reoccupation of Oregon, is mocked as being "up Salt River." Reilly 1843-6. 3 copies in OCLC of either edition, and none others known at auction.
