Additional Details

All volumes appear to be first editions as described by Fitzgerald, and all but 7 are first printings. Three volumes are special signed limited editions: The Brandywine (#530, signed by illustrator Andrew Wyeth as well as the author), The Charles (#60), and The Allegheny (#127). Also signed are The Kennebec (the first in the series), The Upper Mississippi (the second), The Winooski, and The French Broad. The set does not include Songs of the Rivers of America (1942) or the expanded second edition of The Upper Mississippi (1944), both counted as part of the series by Fitzgerald. However, it does include the 1945 expanded edition of The James (as called for by Fitzgerald). While individual titles from this series are not unusual on the market, this appears to be the first time a complete set has been offered at auction. with--Fitzgerald.
