An unusual runaway slave broadside that would indicate that the owner had frequent slave escapes. Charles Carroll was a member of a prestigious Maryland family. Charles' son Lee, later became Governor of the state. The place, Ellicott Mills, refers to property owned by the Ellicotts, neighbors of mathematician/ astronomer Benjamin Banneker. Banneker was hired by the Ellicotts when they mapped out and designed what is now Washington, D.C.
