The Landsat program is the longest-running operation for collecting satellite imagery of the Earth, and was run with technology developed by the Hughes Aircraft Company. At the time these images were made the program was facilitated in part by the private sector operation Earth Observation Satellite Company and is now a joint NASA/USGS program.
