Each 6 or 7 leaves of varied size bound by ribbon to a total size of 16 x 10 inches, each including a certificate with commissioner's signature and embossed paper seal, partly-printed cover sheet with secretarial signatures, one or two original inked drawings on architectural vellum, and a printed description of the invention; minor wear, partial separations at folds to the second printed description. Additional Details

The first was issued to William Morgenstern of Hartford, CT on 23 June 1868, and the other to Valentine Fogerty of Boston on 2 February 1869. Six years later Fogerty went on to greater fame for his patent of the first American nail-clipper.
