First edition of the first separately published work by the pioneer of iron bridge construction. It was also issued later that year as part of Whipple's "A Work on Bridge Building, Consisting of Two Essays," which went through several editions.

"After distributing 50 or 60 copies among friends, the author bound the remainder of the edition with Essay No. II . . . which he had written and printed later in the year"--Fleming, "Wind Stresses in Highway Bridges," in Engineering News 72:8 (25 February 1915), page 372. 3 of this first edition in OCLC. None of either traced at auction.
