PROFESSOR BELL'S NEW TELEPHONE (SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING.) Scientific American Specimens: A Series of Engravings Illustrative of American Progress in Engineering, Manufactures, New Inventions, and Industrial Arts. 62 illustrations. 44, [4] pages. 4to, original wrappers, minor wear and a repaired tear; New York: 1878

Additional Details

Engravings of the most exciting new inventions which had appeared in recent issues of Scientific American, some of them with descriptive text. Most notable is "Professor Bell's New Telephone," described as "a very simple little instrument, by which the sounds of the human voice are transmitted over telegraph wires for long distances." Also shown are a variety of engines, machine tools, and the immortal Barker's Horse Detacher. Surprisingly scarce--not in WorldCat, none found at auction, none spotted in the trade, but one state library was given a copy in 1904.
