Additional Details

first edition of the scarcest and most desirable book on scrimshaw. The title refers to the carved teeth from the Nantucket whaling ship "Susan" in the 1820s. One of the first serious studies of scrimshaw, the book contains detailed photographs of examples in the collections of the author and Winthrop Williams of Nantucket, as well as articles by Frank Wood, Arthur C. Watson, and Marius Barbeau.
