Illustrated by Paul Avril, each plate printed in three states: plain, India-proof, and colored; all plates and 2 states of the text engravings bear a vignette remarque. Text on Japan paper. Large 4to, brown levant extra with colored morocco inlays in fleur-de-lys pattern; doublures in green levant with wide gilt turn-ins and front doublure with color engraved oval vignette of Cleopatra in center, moiré grosgrain cloth endpapers; top edges gilt, joints and corners rubbed with surface loss, edges of covers gradually faded, two minuscule wormholes near foot of spine; tissue guards foxed as usual, sometimes affecting plates, split between front endpapers. one of only twenty lettered copies of the édition de deux mondes.
