An album containing photographs of the British shipbuilders Cammell Laird and the battleship HMS Royal Oak, which was considered the best all-around battleship at the time of its completion. With 19 photographs relating to shipbuilding in Birkenhead and John Laird, who was the first to use iron in ship construction, including the skeleton ships under construction, boats in dock, an image at the launch of the Royal Oak, and a lighthouse. Albumen prints, images measuring 4 1/2x6 1/4 inches (11.4x15.9 cm.), and smaller, and the reverse; mounted recto/verso. Small oblong 4to, gilt-lettered cloth; binding loose. 1891
