Additional Details

first edition of a scarce and unusual narrative. Jackson was born in 1814. For most of his life as a slave, he did not experience the whippings and abuse normally associated with that condition. The most interesting part of his narrative is his life after his escape. Jackson, who was apparently illiterate (this narrative is dictated) composed a few essays, as well as some poetry found at the end of the work.
