(SLAVERY & ABOLITION.) [Salmon P. Chase.] The Address of the Southern and Western Liberty Convention Held at Cincinnati. 15, [1] pages. 8vo, disbound; numerous signatures of two men on first and final pages, minor toning and wear. [New York?], 1845

Additional Details

A speech given at the annual convention of the Liberty Party, which tried to fight slavery within the framework of the Constitution (as opposed to Garrison and his allies, who saw the Constitution as irrevocably tainted). The address helped propel the speaker, Salmon P. Chase, to national prominence; he later served in Lincoln's cabinet and as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Sabin 88294, describing this as one of three issues. This issue names Chase as author of the address and directs orders to be sent to William Harned in New York. None traced at auction since 1920.
