Additional Details

On 13 May 1888, Brazil finally and irrevocably ended slavery with the passage of the Lei Áurea (Golden Law):

Article 1: From the date of this law, slavery is declared extinct in Brazil. Article 2: All dispositions to the contrary are revoked.

As Brazil was the last slave-holding nation, this law ended legal institutionalized slavery not only in Brazil but throughout the world. This volume contains essays and poems in honor of the momentous day. 2 in OCLC; none traced at auction since 1984.
