First edition of a medical manual for Cuban planters and others in "the torrid zone" needing to handle treatment for their enslaved labor force, subtitled "Guia practica para curar la mayor parte de las enfermedades, obra adecuada á la zona tórrida y muy util par aliviar los males de los esclavos." It was written by a doctor from Château-Salins in France who had settled in Cuba; his name is given here as Honorato Bernard de Chateausalins. All manner of horrifying conditions are addressed, including leprosy (pages 107-109), yellow fever (205-207), and gonorrhea (pages 209-210). Menstruation is discussed on pages 145-147.
