Additional Details

A rare whole year of this remarkable little anti-slavery publication. The Friend was aimed at children, but contained some surprising articles. "The Bowie Knife" for example with its history, and a feature article on the murder of Elijah Lovejoy and the burning of his press in Alton. Illustrations include a silhouette portrait engraving of Lovejoy.
