Additional Details

A complex legal guide for those naval officers involved in patrolling the West Coast of Africa following the British ban on taking of slaves. Delicate international treaties regarding search and seizure had to be observed while at the same time making judgment calls on what ships might be carrying slaves. While outlawed in 1807, the trade in slaves continued well into the mid-century.
