Brown writes "Dear wife and children All: I wrote you March 25th enclosing draft for $150, saying write me care of American House I was [?] to say what articles you need of provisions, clothing, shoes &c. Have you written? I still wish you to retain what money you can for a few days; as I hope to be at home to advise with you about laying it out." He goes on to speak of being ill with headache and the ague. "I have seen letters sent to John (John Brown, Jr.) from Henry and Ruth, Watson + Olive; for all which I am very glad. All well A Hudson, Akron + West Andover lately. May write you again before getting home. My best wishes for you all is that you may truly love God + his commandments. Your affectionate husband + father, John Brown."
