The 12 July issue features the story of escaped slave Ellen Crafts and a note on Frederick Douglass assuming sole editorship of the North Star. The 18 October issue features a note by Douglass on his lecturing experiences, and an assessment that the proposed new State of Deseret was steeped in "negro hatred."
