The sale of nine slaves by John Duke James to Joseph Ignatius Biscal Kirke to satisfy a debt of $7025.00. Notarized and witnessed by the governor of the state, Paul Octave Hebert (1818-1880), later Confederate brigadier general, and his Secretary of State, Andrew S. Herron. The money represented default on a note for a sizable piece of land called the "Red River Tract."
