a scarce catechism, intended for the use of both white congregations and people of color. This copy is the stated "Third Edition." The first edition appeared in 1837, with subsequent editions appearing in 1844, 1845 and onward as late as 1862. It was apparently popular among the clergy of Georgia. Charles C. Jones (1804-1863) was an ordained minister who cared about the condition of the slave population. His son, Charles C. Jones Jr. was a folklorist and the author of several important collections of folk tales from Georgia Negroes.
