Additional Details

A very early number of this rare abolitionist newspaper, written almost entirely by Alonzo Lewis (1794-1861). Lewis, an ardent abolitionist, educator, surveyor, editor and publisher, owned large tracts of land which no doubt helped finance this and other journalistic efforts. On the last page of the Amulet, he offers for sale "one half of a township," in New Hampshire comprising some nine thousand acres. He also lists a number of houses and cottages for sale. Only one other issue of this paper is known.
